It's been a while since I've done a painting of a porch. This one is based on photo references from the small town of Arrow Rock, Missouri.

Misty Rose

Click to Bid,   13 by 20 inches,  Acrylic on panel,
Until now most of my floral painting subjects have usually been irises or zinnias.  I know roses have always been a favorite of artists.  Finally I've painted a rose that I am very happy with.

Lily with Distant View of Hills

Click to Bid,   24 by 30 inches,  Acrylic on panel,
I was recently driving on an isolated rural gravel road when I came upon a large patch of wild lilies.  The view past the flowers was a distant hillside. This painting is based on reference photos taken at that location.

Imperial Red Iris

This is another in the larger series of paintings on panel.  I used a poster board stencil to paint the edges of the flower while the background leaves are free hand airbrush.

August Zinnias

Click to Bid      8 by 10 inches,     Acrylic on acid free illustration board
I planted two zinnia gardens this past spring as opposed to our usual one garden.  The new one is near our orchard and gets full sunlight all day.  The flowers have been beautiful!  This painting is based on reference photos taken there.

Summer Coloring

Click to Bid     8 by 10 inches,    Mixed Media
My latest trompe l'oeil.  The shadows cast by the pencils are very important in making the pencils look three dimensional.

This was a labor intensive piece.  I like the contrast between the reds and greens.

Porch on Main Street

Sold            16 by 20 inches,            Acrylic on acid free illustration board
I drove by this porch for years while on my way to the school where I taught.  I finally took my camera along one day and photographed the house.  Those photos were used as reference in this painting.

Annie's Porch

Sold            7.5 by 10 inches,              Acrylic on acid free illustration board
This is the second time I've painted this porch.  The first time was several years ago.  It had fewer flowers but the porch paint was more faded.  To me this symbolizes 20th century America.  It's a time and place slowly fading into the past.

Watch Out for Spring

Sold        8 by 9 inches,            Acrylic on acid free illustration board
This is an antique toy tray I found at a local antique store recently.  I liked the rust and tarnish visible on the tray.  I added those to the painting. It makes for a more interesting piece.  The toy figure standing in front of the tray producing a 3-D affect also adds to the interest.

I was attracted to paint this piece due to the interesting shadows on the face.

I would like to wish all my blog followers "Happy Holidays!!!"
