I just purchased the space age transistor last week at a flea market. I like the styling of the radio. I fit it into a still life featuring 1960s wallpaper, metal glass and a coke bottle all from that time period.
My wife and I were at a flea market recently when she saw this "Little People" plane.
I had apparently overlooked it. I am so happy to have it as a painting subject.
The Rockcliffe Mansion series continues.
Several years ago, I purchased a 1973 pinball machine. The grandkids love playing it. I've always thought
about doing a painting. Finally, did it.
This is a bit of a change for me as far as subject matter. In addition, I did the painting using only posterboard stencils instead of frisket.
I pushed the "Rule of Thirds" compositional element a bit on this one.
This is another piece in the "Little People" series. It seems this one has a more surrealistic look.
The Rockcliffe Mansion series continues. Once again this was a challenge working with the darks and lights.
We were snowed under like much of the middle of the country this past weekend. Travelling to our small hometown I saw this train travelling by the crossing. Without my 35 mm camera I decided to photograph the scene with my smartphone camera. I had to make a few adjustments in the painting process to make it work.
My interest in painting interior scenes continues. The subdued lighting is always a challenge.
In the stone age before streaming music and long before cassettes and CDs, 8-track tapes were a very popular means of playing music. My latest painting depicts an 8-track player and tapes. Recently, I've been including a smoking cigarette and ash tray in some of my retro pieces. I was never a smoker but most of my friends from years ago were. I include the cigarettes in the painting as a way of remembering them.
