We were snowed under like much of the middle of the country this past weekend. Travelling to our small hometown I saw this train travelling by the crossing. Without my 35 mm camera I decided to photograph the scene with my smartphone camera. I had to make a few adjustments in the painting process to make it work.
Like much of the nation we've seen lots of snow, ice and several artic blasts this January in central Missouri. Last week I drove down the highway and was lucky to photograph a Union Pacific train heading east toward St. Louis. This chilly looking painting is based on those reference photos.
As I've previously stated I grew up near the Union Pacific Rail Line in rural Missouri. Trains travelled down the rail near our home almost continuously. This painting is based on some photos taken near my old homeplace.
