Homeward Bound in the Rain

Click to Bid, 16 by 20 inches, Acrylic on acid free illustration board

I painted this landscape scene with just the highway, vehicle and clouds and after finishing decided it needed something. My first thought was adding raindrops to make an appearance of a windshield. It was perfect timing in that it was raining outside so I sat in my car taking numerous photos of raindrops. Those photos were used in the production of this painting.

Rail Crossing in the Rain

Click to Bid, 15 by 18 inches, Acrylic on acid free illustration board

My fascination with railroad images continues with my latest piece. I wanted the look of  a rainy day and  had considered actually painting falling raindrops. After looking at the painting for a while I thought that the image already suggests falling rain. I then decided that it was unnecessary to actually paint the raindrops.

November Rail Crossing

Click to Bid, 16 by 20 inches, Acrylic on acid free illustration board
I usually paint landscapes and outdoor scenes with strong sunlight.  I decided to do a scene with subdued lighting as a change of pace.                                                                                                  My childhood home was just a few hundred yards from the Union Pacific Rail line. I still live near the railroad and find myself waiting at the crossing a few times each week. I've always enjoyed graffiti on trains and I couldn't resist combining the subdued lighting with a train scene depicting graffiti.

Building America

The Union Pacific rail line was just a few hundred yards from my childhood home as I was growing up.  The loud noise of the trains braking and blowing their whistles eventually became background sounds that suggested a certain calm.  This everyday scene of a railroad crossing suggests a subliminal message.

Bus Ride at Dawn

Sold  18 by 24 inches,  Acrylic on acid free illustration board
This school bus travels down the gravel road near our home each weekday morning during the school year. One morning I was walking my dogs and noticed this stunning scene as the bus travelled down the road to make a right turn onto the highway.  The painting was challenging in that the dark values had to be exact to make the scene work.

Frozen in Time

Click to bid,  18 by 24 inches, Acrylic on acid free illustration board
This is my fifteenth "Vehicle in Snow" painting.  Considering all my series of paintings it's the one that has received the most awards in competitions.  I think the underlying ecology theme is part of the reason.

This is a painting of a classic 1957 Chevy Bel Air.   The light body coupled with the big block engine made this vehicle an instant classic.
