My fascination with railroad images continues with my latest piece. I wanted the look of a rainy day and had considered actually painting falling raindrops. After looking at the painting for a while I thought that the image already suggests falling rain. I then decided that it was unnecessary to actually paint the raindrops.

The Union Pacific rail line was just a few hundred yards from my childhood home as I was growing up. The loud noise of the trains braking and blowing their whistles eventually became background sounds that suggested a certain calm. This everyday scene of a railroad crossing suggests a subliminal message.
