I used Spectra Art Tissue paper to apply the abstract colors to the background. The tissue bleeds color when moist allowing for the mixing of colors. I wanted the blues to contrast with the flesh colors of the figure.

We recently made a road trip to the Botanical Gardens in St. Louis Missouri.  The light was perfect for floral photography.  This iris painting is based on some of those photos.  I used a scrape book printing block to apply the black lines in the background.

This painting represents a "change-up" for me.  The background was done while the paper was moist. The paint was applied with an eye dropper.  I then covered the background with frisket and airbrushed the flower.

This is somewhat different from my recent paintings.  In addition to being a watercolor the background is done with tissue paper.   I began by covering the face drawing with a liquid frisk.  The watercolor paper is then moistened and the tissue is applied.  The color bleeds from the tissue onto the paper.  The tissue is removed after the color is allowed to bleed onto the paper. Once the paper is dry I removed the liquid frisk.  I then made a poster board stencil and airbrushed the face.

The "Nude Series" continues.  In this piece I allowed some of the abstract shapes to show through under the cloth the model is wearing.  This painting is also on cold press illustration board.  The board is more absorbent and accepts paint similar to watercolor paper.

This was my second attempt at this piece.  The background is applied with colorful craft tissue.  The tissue is moistened and placed on the white illustration board.  It is then removed and the color remains on the surface. My first attempt ended with the board too wet.  This caused the frisket not to stick properly.  With my second attempt I applied the tissue with less water.  The figure was done with acrylic paint applied with airbrush. I thought about painting a cast shadow by the figure.  With this particular background I didn't think it would be successful.
