Fading

Click to Buy,   16 by 20 inches,  Acrylic on acid free illustration board. This is probably the most nostalgic “trompe l’oeil” (French for ‘to fool the eye’) I’ve painted.  I followed the classic method of trompe l’oeil in that the painted images are very close in size to the actual real life objects.  I actually fooled myself on this one.
While painting I had been looking closely at the actual license plate.  In the middle of the painting process I had placed the partially completed artwork on the desk in the office.   A few hours later I came back and looked at the painting and thought I had mistakenly left the plate on the painting.  It was actually the painted license.
