This is the second painting I've done of this toy top. I'm assuming that this top was probably produced sometime between the early to mid 1960's. Being a small kid at that time I remember the emphasis that was being placed on science in schools. President Kennedy on May 25th, 1961 committed the United States to landing a manned spacecraft on the moon by the end of the decade. This pushed the science curriculum to the fore in schools throughout the USA.
